He’s well known for finishing second in the WSOP $10,000 no-limit Texas hold’em event in 1982 and 2001, as runner-up to Jack Straus and Carlos Mortensen. In 2008, he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. In addition to cards, Tomko is an avid golfer who hits the links with fellow poker stars Doyle Brunson and Hilbert Shirey. His golf exploits are featured in sports columnist Rick Reilly’s book, “Who’s Your Caddy”. Tomko is married to his wife, Marianella, has three children, and lives in Winter Haven, Florida. His son, Derek, is also a professional poker player.
