Early Life
Jeremy Allen White was born in either 1990 or 1991 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. He was raised in the neighborhood of Carroll Gardens by his parents, both of whom were professional stage actors before marrying. As a kid in elementary school, White caught the performing bug himself, and developed an aptitude for jazz, ballet, and tap dancing. When he was 13, he decided to drop dancing to pursue a career in acting instead.
Television Career
While he was still in high school in 2006, White made his television debut in an episode of the NBC legal drama “Conviction.” Following this, he appeared in two episodes of the police procedural series “Law & Order,” and was later in an episode of the spinoff series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” In 2011, when he was fresh out of high school, White landed the role that would launch him to fame: Philip “Lip” Gallagher, the eldest son of the Gallagher family, on the Showtime dramedy series “Shameless.” An adaptation of the British series of the same name, the American “Shameless” focuses on the misadventures of a dysfunctional family living on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. It features a large ensemble cast including William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Ethan Cutkosky, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan, Justin Chatwin, and Shanola Hampton, among others. A major hit, “Shameless” ran for 11 seasons through 2021. For his work on “The Bear,” in 2023 Jeremy won a Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.
